Road Trip: Midwest 2010

Is there anything more all-American than a road trip? Yes – a road trip centered around baseball! Each of the past two years I’ve managed to do a “five ballparks in five nights” road trip with Pops (my dad). In 2010 it was a minor league trip through the Midwest:

Victory Field (Indianapolis, IN)
Louisville Slugger Field (Louisville, KY)
Huntington Park (Columbus, OH)
Canal Park (Akron, OH)
Fifth Third Field (Toledo, OH)

This tour featured four of the nicest ballparks in all of Triple A (Akron is Double A). Starting in Indianapolis and ending in Toledo meant drives of only 2-3 hours between each city and plenty of opportunities for other activities during the day. We toured Churchill Downs before leaving Louisville and visited the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Note that Dayton, OH could easily be incorporated into this tour; for scheduling purposes we went with Akron in order to get to Canton. Dayton is on my must-visit list for 2012.
