Ballpark Memory: Two Strikes and Rickey is Out

Milwaukee County Stadium, Sep. 27, 1992. I was 12 years old and the Brewers were actually in contention, trailing the first place Blue Jays by just 2 1/2 games with a week to go. Adding to the excitement was the fact the Brewers were playing their final home game of the year against the AL-West-leading Oakland A’s. The Brewers won (though failed to catch Toronto), but the highlight was the crowd going insane when Rickey Henderson was ejected for arguing a called strike TWO in the 8th inning. A’s manager Tony LaRussa added to the mess by grabbing the bat and heading towards the plate as if he was going to hit. He too was ejected.
