Whataburger Field, named after a Texas-based fast food restaurant chain, is a sparkling jewel of the Corpus Christi waterfront. The setting is really the defining feature, with the Harbor Bridge dominating the backdrop of the outfield and the USS Lexington visible from within the park. You also see boats docking and moving in and out beyond the left field fence and two old cotton gins that remain in the outfield concourse to further connect the park to its surroundings. Everything about Whataburger Field was enjoyable, from the attractive park entrance (which features a statue of a larger than life baseball player) to the comfortable seating bowl. Stadium staff was also very friendly – we had at least three different ushers stop by to talk to us after they heard we were visiting from Wisconsin. Overall, Whataburger Field is a great example of how minor league baseball facilities can showcase a community.
