Yards of Summer is designed to celebrate the ballpark through photographs and brief reviews. For each minor league park I visit, I provide a photo gallery and a brief overview of the park’s highlights. For Major League parks I provide photo galleries with more detailed reviews that include grades for various categories. Obviously, I bothered building this site because I love baseball and visiting ballparks, so you’ll notice that the reviews are overwhelmingly positive and focus primarily on things I enjoy. The grades are really like graduate school grades – most everything is in the As and Bs.
A bit more on the layout for my Major League ballpark reviews. After an introduction, remaining sections include:
- A Tip of the Cap. A bullet list of things I liked about the park.
- A Swing and a Miss. A brief highlighting of one or two things I thought could have been improved.
- Trip to the Mound. Tips for getting the most out of a visit to the park.
- Overall Rating. Grades for setting, appearance, and atmosphere.
Yards of Summer is authored (all photographs and content) by Tyler Sachse, a Wisconsin native and double badger (B.A. and MBA from UW-Madison). This site is a spare-time endeavor aimed at sharing Tyler’s enjoyment of baseball and the baseball road trip. All ballpark visits on this site have taken place since 2005, when Tyler took his first multiple-city ballpark trip with his cousin to Detroit, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Since then he has taken multiple baseball-centric trips, including annual “five ballparks in five nights” trips with his dad and friends for the past several years.
Tyler is currently a resident of the Twin Cities where he plans to be a regular patron of Target Field.
